Refuge Ministry

The Refuge Ministry at Good Shepherd/El Buen Pastor Lutheran Church accompanies, supports, and advocates for immigrant individuals and families in our community, especially those facing vulnerable situations due to displacement, legal uncertainty, or lack of resources. Rooted in the biblical call to welcome the stranger and in alignment with the ELCA’s AMMPARO (Accompanying Migrant Minors with Protection, Advocacy, Representation and Opportunities) initiative, this ministry seeks to walk alongside those impacted by migration through compassionate presence, connection to legal and social services, accompaniment to court or immigration appointments, and support for basic needs. The Refuge Ministry partners with community organizations, legal aid groups, and other congregational ministries to promote dignity, justice, and hope for immigrants as a central part of our witness and mission in Christ. This ministry reports regularly to the Congregational Council through a designated liaison.
